Chancellor Finalists Announced

District Announces Finalists for Chancellor's Post 

The Board of Trustees has announced four finalists for the position of chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District to succeed Linda Thor, who retires June 30. 

Each candidate will visit the district for a day between June 8-11 for additional interviews and to participate in open forums at Foothill College and De Anza College. 

In alphabetical order, the finalists are: 

Deborah Budd, president of Berkeley City College
Patricia Hsieh, president of San Diego Miramar College
Jowel C. Laguerre, superintendent-president of Solano Community College District
Judy C. Miner, president of Foothill College 

Now in her third year as president at Berkeley City College, Budd previously served as vice chancellor of educational services and associate vice chancellor of academic affairs in the Peralta Community College District in Oakland. She holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from San Francisco State University. 

President at San Diego Miramar College for the past 10 years, Hsieh came to that position from Sacramento City College where she served as interim president and vice president of student services. She holds a doctorate degree in institutional management in higher education from Pepperdine University. 

Prior to joining Solano Community College District as superintendent-president six years ago, Laguerre served as vice president for academic affairs at Truckee Meadows Community College in Nevada and executive vice president for academic and student services at Montgomery College in Maryland. He holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership in higher education from the University of Kansas.   

President of Foothill College for the past eight years, Miner previously served as vice president of instruction and dean of academic services at De Anza College. She holds a doctorate in education degree in organization and leadership, with a concentration in education law, from the University of San Francisco.

"We appreciate the hard work of the search committee and our consultant in bringing forward such qualified individuals working under a tight schedule," said Board of Trustees President Pearl Cheng. "We very much look forward to meeting with and interviewing the candidates." 

A search committee made up Foothill-De Anza’s constituent groups recommended the finalists after a four-month national search.

The Board of Trustees expects to complete the selection process in June.
