Volunteers Needed for Bond and Finance Committees
The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is seeking community volunteers to serve on two district advisory committees – the Measure C Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee and the Foothill-De Anza Audit & Finance Committee.
Public members play important oversight and advisory roles on the two committees, providing valued feedback and guidance to the Board of Trustees. A total of six people are being sought to volunteer their public service.
Citizens Bond Oversight Committee
The board is seeking four community members to represent the following groups on the Measure C Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee:
- At-large representative
- Business organization representative
- Senior citizens’ organization representative
- Taxpayer association representative
The CBOC is a seven-member body that meets four times a year to review expenditures associated with Measure C, the $490.8 million bond measure approved by district voters in 2006. The committee reports annually to the public and the district’s Board of Trustees on the Measure C bond program. (See http://measurec.fhda.edu)
Audit & Finance Committee
In addition, two community members are being recruited for the board’s Audit & Finance Committee, which is made up of four community members and two members of the Board of Trustees. Leaving the committee are Marge Bruno, who has served two terms, and Joel Spolin, who resigned with three years remaining on his term. Continuing their service are Jim Sandstrom and Dexter Dawes.
The Audit & Finance Committee generally meets quarterly but may meet more frequently if needed. The district established the committee in the early 1990s to assure transparency in financial affairs and assist trustees in carrying out their fiscal oversight responsibilities. Applicants for this committee should have a background in budget, finance, and/or audit.
Importance of committees
“The district has benefitted enormously from the astute observations and advice provided by local residents who have served on these committees,” said Chancellor Judy C. Miner. “Their sound judgment and business and financial acumen have helped Foothill-De Anza meet the highest standards of fiscal accountability and transparency. The community has been well represented through their participation.”
New committee members would begin their service in January. Terms on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) are for two years. Audit & Finance Committee terms are for four years, unless filling an unexpired term. Committee members do not receive financial compensation.
Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their qualifications no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Further, Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee applicants must state which of the categories they would represent – at-large, business organization, senior citizens’ organization, or taxpayer association.

Applicants must live within the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. This includes residents of Palo Alto, Stanford, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and slivers of Saratoga and San Jose.
