Levine Sworn in As Foothill-De Anza Police Chief

Ronald J. Levine was sworn in as police chief and director of safety and security for the Foothill-De Anza Community College District at a ceremony held in the district boardroom Aug. 4. He was promoted from police sergeant and acting assistant director of the department.

"I'm honored to serve as police chief," said Levine. "I look forward to ensuring a safe environment at Foothill-De Anza in which students can learn, faculty and staff can work, and community members can enjoy our facilities."

"We are very pleased to have Chief Levine in this critically important position," said Chancellor Martha J. Kanter, who administered Levine's oath of office. "His department is responsible for the safety of more than 45,000 students, almost 2,400 faculty and staff, and the thousands of community members who take advantage of our campuses' resources each quarter-a total population larger than that of many cities. District Safety and Security is vital to ensuring quality educational opportunities for our students." The department is a fully Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-accredited agency.

Prior to joining Foothill-De Anza in 2003, Levine served as a senior investigator in corporate worldwide investigations at 3Com Corp. His other law enforcement experience includes 22 years as a deputy sheriff with the Santa Clara Co. Sheriff's Office, four of which he spent at the Stanford University Department of Public Safety. He also served with the Los Altos and San Carlos police departments.

Levine earned an administration of justice degree with honors from Cañada College in Redwood City. He also studied at San Jose State University and is pursuing a degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a board member of the Silicon Valley chapter of the international High Technology Crime Investigation Assocation (HTCIA).

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District serves the communities of Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and portions of San Jose.
