A Year of Breathing Life Into Necessary and “Good Trouble”

When it comes to equitizing our campuses and our district, Dr. Joy DeGruy will be the first one to tell you there is no such thing as one and done. That’s why your professional development leaders are proud to announce that we are collectively committing to work with Dr. DeGruy this entire year.

In this Opening Day session, Dr. DeGruy will help us wrap our arms around not only the task ahead of us, but ourselves. We will unapologetically discuss the “good trouble” that we all need to do as accomplices to make ours an anti-racist, fully inclusive organization. This serves as the catalyst toward unpacking how our anti-black and indigenous systems inform our own structural racism and its connection to many of our other oppressive practices around ableism, gender identity, and homophobia, while also considering the totality of that impact on communities with intersecting identities. 

In this powerful day, we will critically self-reflect and ask ourselves, “How are we accepting and taking responsibility for being part of the problem? How we are committing to doing personal work? And how we will invest in making this community a better, more humanizing and just place?”

With this session, we acknowledge and uplift the work started by so many of our colleagues and ancestors before us.
