Dr. Deborah Budd
Dr. Budd is known for her passion for educational excellence and for leveraging collaborative partnerships to ensure student success. Her educational career spans 28 years. She is completing her third year as the President of Berkeley City College. Prior to serving as President she has served as Vice Chancellor for the Peralta Community College District, Vice President of Educational Resources and Instruction for Foothill College and Dean at Chabot College.
Her dissertation, Institutional Effectiveness and the Relationship to African American and Latino Transfer Rates, highlights her extensive knowledge relating to the integration of planning and budgeting, accreditation and suggestions for closing the achievement gap.
Dr. Budd received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and Physical Education from University of California at Santa Barbara, her Master’s in Education from Stanford University and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Francisco State University.
As an experienced educational leader, she combines innovation, research, and effective management with a respect for faculty and staff and a deep and compassionate commitment to students.
During her tenure as president, Berkeley City College has revised its education master plan, involved all constituent groups in the development the their equity plan, increased the college budget allocation through growth of both resident and non-resident students, successfully identified and acquired a new property to serve the growing student population, increased outreach to the community and fundraising efforts, and worked to ensure the College’s reaffirmation of accreditation, as well as the integration of planning and budgeting.
In addition to her duties as College President, Dr. Budd serves on the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Peralta Foundation Board, and works closely with the Mayor of Berkeley on the Vision 20/20 project.
